Hey guys! Welcome back. Today I wanted to share with you how to start a business with your blog. Before I begin I would just like to say there are hundreds of different ways you can start a business with your blog and there is no wrong way. These are just the things I did that helped me and I hope they will help some of you as well. If you have any questions you can comment below and I will be sure to answer as many as I can. But without any further ado, this is how I started a business with my blog.

1. Start a blog. If you haven’t already, start blogging. Now, I did not start my blog with the intention of it ever turning into a business. However, after a year and a half of blogging every single day, I figured I should start making some money off of it. So I transitioned from just writing, to coaching others on blogging. Come April 1st, you will all have access to a few programs that I have been working on, so stay tuned.

You need to choose a domain and name for your blog that is going to fit your personality and make sense to you and your audience. Ideally, it should start with you and what you hope to grow into as an eventual business. You probably won’t make money right out of the gate, but if you do the right things and have a product that your audience needs or wants, you can make money pretty quickly.

2. Find a blog host. In most cases, in order to sell and make a profit from your blog, you need to be self-hosted. However, you can still have a blog host. I personally use WordPress and I love it. I tried other platforms before this one and none of them worked as well for me. WordPress gives you the option to go self-hosted and they have different plans you can choose from at different prices.

Like I said, it is ideal that you become self-hosted which means you don’t have “.wordpress” in your website. For instance, when I became self-hosted my site went from to Owning your own website gives you complete control and you keep all of the profits you make. It also ensures that the people visiting your site takes you seriously.

3. Find your niche. Most people think in order to make money off of blogging you have to blog about blogging. That’s not true. Just like YouTube, you can make money from topics like beauty, fitness, lifestyle, and even cooking. You can connect to websites like Blogger Meets Brand and they will connect you with brands that will pay you to advertise their products.

I blog about blogging and coach people on blogging because I am passionate about it. But you need experience in order to get to a level of being able to do that. So if you are starting your blog fresh, you may not be able to just jump right into it. So you may need another niche before you can get on that train.

4. Create your essential pages. These are your contact page, your about me page, and work with me page. These pages will help direct new audience members and potential brands or people who want to work with you. Having these pages already ready helps people know that you are serious about your business and ready and to work with others. If people have a hard time getting in touch with you they may move on.

All good businesses have these essential pages, especially new businesses. If someone comes to your blog and sees the “work with me” page, even if they weren’t thinking about it, they might consider it. People come to businesses in all sorts of ways, so having these pages opens up the door so they can just walk right in.

5. Develop a content strategy. The very first step is to figure out a schedule. Know when you want to write, when you want to publish, and when you want to promote. All three of these are key to blogging, but you have to be consistent. Blogging takes a lot of time and it’s not an easy task, but if you are consistent you will grow and in no time you will be where you want to be and further.

I don’t always recommend posting everyday, unless you have the time to do that. However, the more you post, the more attention you will get. The more you grow, the more you will continue to grow. So post as many times as you can and let your audience know what your schedule will be so they know what to look forward to.

6. Publish and promote. Don’t be a pushy salesman, but keep reminding your audience of the product or service you have available. That way, people who are returning will remember and are more likely to join in and new followers will know what it is you are providing. It’s good to keep reminding people so they know you are serious and care about what you are selling.

Promoting on social media is one of the keys to selling any product or service. This is how you will reach the cast majority of your audience. Those who don’t follow you on your blog can follow you on social media and know when new products or services are released and they can also purchase.

It took me a year and half to start my business. That has a lot to do with the fact that I didn’t go into it thinking I would start a business. I just wanted to try blogging. But after over a year of writing and editing every day, I knew there was something in it for me. So I turned it into my own little side business and now I work with people every day helping them grow their blog on both small scales and large scales.
