Hey guys! Welcome back. I don’t know about you, but I sometimes get stuck in a rut. It’s hard to get going and be productive sometimes. It’s not necessarily procrastination, it’s just a lack of knowing where to go or how to get started. When you have so much going on it can be difficult to even know where to start tackling it all. I know I feel this way sometimes, and I know several of you do as well. And that is why today I wanted to talk to you about hitting refresh and getting out of that rut. It’s easier than it sounds, but it will take some work.

Step One – Go easy on yourself.

It’s okay to get into a rut every now and then. In fact it’s normal. We live busy and hectic lives, so it’s only natural that we hit a road block sometimes. You have to accept it and know that you can come back from it. The important thing is to not sit and dwell on it. Allow yourself to take a break from it all. Remove yourself from the situation and come back when you feel ready. If you sit and dwell on it it may never get done and you will only get deeper into a rut.

Step Two – Understand where the problem lies.

Maybe it’s your to-do list, maybe you don’t have one, maybe you aren’t organized. Whatever it is it is important to evaluate your situation and figure out where things are going wrong. Look and see what you need to do to fix the current situation. Make actionable steps to safeguard your time. Put things on your to-do list and in your calendar that you can actually manage and find time to get done. Once you are honest with yourself about what is going wrong, you can tackle how to overcome them.

Step Three – Manage Your To-Do List.

If you have a to-do list, make sure it isn’t just a list of things to do. You need to prioritize your to-do list and make sure it is written in a way that you feel in control. You need to have tasks that you can actually handle and get done. Make sure you are dividing up the tasks and giving each one a priority stamp. If it’s not a priority, don’t include it. Don’t write your goals on your to-do list. Write actionable steps that you can actually do.

Step Four – Scheduling.

Once everything is managed and prioritized, it is important to schedule it all. I recommend Google Calendar because it is easy, free, and efficient. You can schedule everything you have to do to a specific time and you can even set it up to get reminders if you need them. Scheduling is essential because it allows you to see how much time you have for things. It also lets you know when it’s time to move on. It keeps you focused throughout the day.

Step Five – Take a break.

Rest is just as important as work. If you are not taking breaks throughout the day you will get burned out quicker than normal. So let yourself rest. Walk away from it all and make sure you are taking care of yourself. It’s easier said than done sometimes, but it is important and you will notice a huge difference when you start making breaks a regular part of your day, week, and month.

    It’s been a challenge for me to take a break and give myself a pass when I’m not feeling well enough to do my workout or whatever else I’d normally push myself to do…
