Hey guys! Welcome back. Summer seems like a pretty good time to declutter and get rid of things, right? And while I do believe in the power of getting rid of physical things we don’t need, I think it is also important to evaluate our lives and how we are living them. So today I wanted to share with the five bad habits that I am really working to overcome so I can be happier.

1. Hitting the snooze button. When I am in school I have a really bad habit of hitting snooze and going back to sleep. So I am really working to overcome that and get up on time. Getting out of bed is a challenge for me early in the morning. Not only does it generally make me late or rushed, but because I am not giving myself a proper amount of time, it can affect my mood heading into the day. So I am really trying to get rid of the bad habit of hitting the snooze button.

2. Not making my bed. I am ashamed to admit that I don’t make my bed as often as I should. It’s not typically a big deal for people who don’t live in a dorm room. But when you do, or you work from your bedroom, having a bed that is not bed can distract you or make your room look messy. There is a lot of power in a freshly made bed. It also helps me start the day on the right foot and be able to mark it off as an accomplishment. And who doesn’t want that. That being said, I want to start making my bed everyday to see the positive impact that it has.

3. Not getting ready for the day. A lot of this has to do with the fact that I hit snooze so much. But I also have a bad habit of not doing my routine sometimes. While it may not seem like a big deal, it does affect the rest of my day. But I know in order to help myself be prepared and productive throughout the day, I need to set myself up for success. So getting ready in the morning is something that I need to prioritize. Getting ready for the day helps me feel more productive and motivated, so I really want to make sure I am doing all I can to get ready for the day.

4. Apologizing so much. I have a really bad habit of apologizing all the time. And while it is good to apologize when you have done something wrong, it’s not necessary to apologize for things that are not your fault. I apologize for things like my happiness or success when other people don’t think I should have them. I apologize for what someone else has done in an effort to excuse their behavior. It’s just a bad habit that I am working to overcome. I want to be polite, but I don’t want to over-apologize.

5. Making excuses. Sometimes this is in defense of other people, but mostly it is in defense of myself. I make excuses for not accomplishing things I was fully capable of doing. This usually comes from me being afraid to step out of my comfort zone or the fear of failing. But I have realized that all of these excuses and holding me back from my full potential. So I want to start committing to not making excuses. I have to stop excusing my procrastination and take control of my life. I need to start taking the necessary steps toward reaching my goals.

These are all so great and I’m trying to get rid of them too! Especially hitting snooze and apologizing! Sometimes I’d apologize for my good grades when people around me who have lower ask. Like it’s something I worked for and God blessed me with so I should really be proud of myself instead of trying to sink in with everyone else. Love this list!!

    1. Yes!!! I do the same thing. I always feel bad and don’t want to be proud of myself because I don’t want others to feel bad. But I worked hard for whatever it is and I should be proud. Thank you for reading!!!

Great list. There is no need to apologize for being yourself.

  3. Hi, please stop exposing me. Hahaha jk but I seriously relate to almost all of these items! Especially the first two. I was getting better at no. 2 but then I fell back to 1 so bad that I had no time for it anymore, so I should get back to it. Seriously. For myself I should add getting to sleep earlier because that’s directly linked to no. 1 for me. Let’s do this!

    1. Haha! That’s great. I think most people can relate to most of these, so don’t worry, you’re not alone. I think we could all stand to focus on these and try to be better!
