Hey guys! Welcome back. I had a request to talk about what makeup means to me and why I love it. I also had someone request that I talk about my favorite brands. So I decided I would combine the two and talk about my relationship with makeup and include my favorite makeup brands. I just wanted to tell you a little bit about how my journey with makeup started and where it is today. Hopefully you find inspiration from this and it helps you know a little bit more about me.
My relationship with makeup didn’t start until about three years ago. I had a little bit of makeup, but it was mostly just for my eyes and it didn’t really stand out. I didn’t wear makeup because I thought I had to or because I felt like I needed it. It just seemed like something that adult women did. So in May 2016 I started watching beauty videos online. It was so I could learn to teach my sister because she really wanted to learn, but I didn’t know anything about it.
For the first year, literally until May 2017, I only watched Casey Holmes. She was the only person I watched and I never even considered watching her. But then in the process of her moving she stopped uploading as much and at that point I was obsessed. My makeup collection had started to grow and I had become quite the makeup junkie. I had started playing around with makeup more and I loved the fact that it was a creative outlet for me. But in that time I was desperate for new sources.
Casey Holmes has super oily skin and I have super dry skin, so I figured it wouldn’t hurt to find someone with dry skin. And that is when I found Kathleen Lights. I started watching her videos and fell in love with her too. She has also been a huge part of my makeup journey.
I say all of this to say that my makeup journey didn’t just come out of nowhere. I started watching people who inspired me and helped me learn. Now, along with the two of them, I watch Jaclyn Hill, Allie Glines, and Kelly Strack, just to name a few. They all inspire me and teach me.
For me makeup is not about looking better or drawing attention to myself. I know I don’t need makeup. For me it is a creative outlet. It helps me have control and eases my anxiety. I have always been incredibly anxious first thing in the morning and doing my makeup helps me gain control of my day. It gives me a few moments to enjoy myself and focus on something other than everything I have to do that day.
That is what makeup means to me. It is a way for me to be creative and have fun. It’s a way for me to show off my personality and just feel more confident. It’s not because I feel like I need it or because I think people will like me more. For me it is about control and creativity. It is a way for me to express myself. I love makeup and I don’t think there is anything wrong with people who wear makeup or people who don’t.
So now that I have shared my story, I wanted to share my favorite brands. There are some drugstore, affordable, and high end brands. I have a very large makeup collection, so if you are looking for great brands to try, these are my favorites.
Wet n’ Wild
