Hey guys! Welcome back. I hope you are enjoying your week. I have struggled for a long time trying to figure out how to live a life that I am proud of. A life that makes me want to get up everyday and work hard. It has taken me a long time, but I have learned a few things along the way. One of the biggest things is that there are some things that I had to give up in order to have that life. And that is what I am going to share with you today. Here are six things to give up if you want to live a fulfilling life.
1. Numbing the pain.
I used to go through life numbing how I felt. I wouldn’t allow myself to express my emotions or think about how I felt. I would just suppress it and move on. But that just ended up hurting me even more. So I started working on acknowledging my feeling and expressing myself more clearly. I’m not perfect and I still have days where I numb the pain. But overall it has improved and I have seen a significant change in my life.
2. Taking advice from people who don’t have the results you want.
People tend to criticize and give “advice” even when it is not asked for. So one of the things that I had to give up was taking advice from people who aren’t where I want to be. It’s always good to get advice from people who are in a position that you want to be in and that have taken the road that you are taking. But you shouldn’t let someone lead you to believe that you shouldn’t do something just because they don’t think it’s a good idea. Because they are not the ones living your life.
3. Your infatuation with the future.
In order to live a whole and fulfilling life, it is important that you learn to be in the present and know what is happening now. Working towards the future is great, but it is important to live in the moment. Understand what is happening around you and within you. Take in all that you can and work on the relationships you have right now. That will take you far in life and you will learn to appreciate what you have, when you have it. Otherwise, you may miss things down the road.
4. Denying responsibility for your life.
As humans, we often have this bad habit of blaming other people or situations for our failures or losses. We don’t take responsibility for ourselves and our lives. So if you want to have a fulfilling life, it is incredibly important to start taking responsibility and know that you are in control sometimes. Accept responsibility for your actions and know that you are not perfect. But you have to own up to things and be true to yourself.
5. The stories you tell yourself about yourself.
If you are anything like me, you are probably a little too hard on yourself sometimes. And one of the things I learned to let go of is all of those negative stories I told myself. Because all of those stories led to me feeling really insecure and closed off from the world. Once I let those go I realized that I was filled with joy and hope. I was working on being the very best version of myself that I can be.
6. Avoiding the inner work.
Sometimes we put so much focus on what we look like on the outside, that we forget that sometimes the inside needs work too. Whether it is being less selfish, prioritizing yourself, or working on your confidence, sometimes we need to work on what is going on internally. So if you want a fulfilling life, figure out what it is that you need to work on and move forward from there.
