Hey guys! Welcome back. Being a college student with two jobs, a lot of demands, and a social life, daily self care is a must to keep me sane. I used to fall into a trap of not taking any time for myself, but I quickly realized that it’s true when they say “you can’t pour from an empty cup”. So I try to make self care a part of my daily routine. I like having various things I can choose from so I can enjoy my time and relax. Because I fully believe that everyone needs breaks throughout the day to prevent burning out. So here are some ways that I practice daily self care.
Doing my nails.
Of course, I don’t do this everyday, but this is one of the things I choose from. When my nails are looking really bad, I like to take an hour to do them again so they look nice. Not only does it help me relax and focus on something that is not a responsibility, but it also helps boost my confidence. So in that regard, there are many benefits to taking the time to do my nails.
Sometimes it is a big treat, sometimes it is a small treat. It just depends on the work I have done and what I feel like I need in the moment. I believe in the power of treating yourself as a motivating factor to keep moving. It’s a really big help. I don’t use this for of self care everyday either, but I save it for the times that I know it will be the most effective. It helps keep me going sometimes.
Writing is one of my favorite forms of self care. From writing blog posts to writing out ideas, I love writing. It helps me get out my thoughts and everything else. I love that I have a platform to share most of what I write and I really love knowing it is beneficial to so many of you. So I really strive to write when I am feeling really down or unfocused. It helps inspire me.
Walking in the sunshine.
Walking around outside and feeling the warmth of the sunshine is one of my absolute favorite things. It helps relieve so much stress and it allows me to have a few moments to myself. I put on my favorite playlist and just walk around. It allows me to clear my head and take some time away from all of my responsibilities. It is also a great way to burn some calories, so of course that’s a bonus.
Asking for help when I need it.
One of my biggest weaknesses is asking for help. Growing up I was always taught to do things for myself. So asking for help is something that I have always been really uncomfortable with. But in the past year I have learned the value of asking for help and letting other people in. Because I honestly can’t do everything alone and I don’t have to. So I strive to ask for help when I need it.
Accepting when I need to stop.
There are days when I don’t stop working until well into the night. There are other days when I feel guilty about not getting as much done as I needed to. But I have learned that one of the best ways to take care of myself is to listen to my body. I need to learn to accept when I need a break and when I need to step away from what I am doing. It has helped me with my focus more than I ever thought it would.
