Hey guys! Welcome back. I hope you have had a great week. We all have bad days sometimes. We struggle, we stress, we break down. It’s a natural and very normal part of life. And we talk about self care so much that it almost seems bigger than it actually is. That is why today I wanted to share with you some simple and realistic self care tips for those bad mental health days when you just don’t really want to do anything.
Reduce your to-do list.
The first, and very best thing, you can do is take things off of your to-do list. Move them to another day or just take them off completely if it’s not something you really need to do. It’s important to give yourself some time and space to just clear your mind. Reducing your to-do list can help you worry and stress less.
Focus on basic self care.
Start with taking a shower or a bath. Just get clean. Take the time to wash your hair really good. Do a hair mask. Shave. Exfoliate. Do all the things that will make you feel better. Turn on a movie or pull out a book and do a face mask. Just do the simple things that make you feel good.
Unplug from social media.
Stay off of social media for a bit. Take some time to just unwind and not worry about what is going on in the world around you. Just be present with yourself while you take that time to escape and just relax. Avoid social media as much as you can and give yourself a break. You can catch up later if you need to.
Eat little and often.
You could eat one big meal if you wanted to. But I like to eat a little at a time, but often. It helps me enjoy it more and prevents me from eating too much. When I am having a bad mental health day I like to make sure I am eating foods that are good for me, but sometimes I will allow myself to have a treat.
Read a book or watch a movie.
I touched on this earlier, but a really fun form of self care is watching a movie or reading a book. Not only are they really enjoyable, but they allow you to escape what is going on in your life right now and enter into a different world with different people. It’s a great way to take a time out and distract yourself from everything.
Journal your feelings.
I like writing when I’m not having a good day or I need to work through some things that are going on. So I always recommend journaling your feelings and getting through some of the things that you are going through. It helps me not bottle things in and allows me to process some things.
This could be anything from eating your favorite snack to buying something you have really wanted but wouldn’t buy for yourself. Treat yourself to something that will lift your spirits and help get you in a better mental space. You deserve it every now and then so live it up.
Talk to someone.
If you have a lot going on or you are feeling really down, talk to someone. It could be your best friend or mental health professional. Talk to whoever you feel like you could benefit the most from talking to. Don’t be afraid to reach out when you need someone to talk to.
Go easy on yourself.
Don’t stress out about all the things that aren’t getting done. Don’t feel guilty about taking some time for yourself. You deserve it. Sometimes the very best thing you can do for yourself is take a break and focus on self care. So just take it easy and know that you can pick up where you left off later.
Go to bed early.
My absolute favorite form of self care is sleeping. I don’t care what anyone else says. There is no better feeling than getting a really good night’s sleep. I wake up feeling the best I ever have when I get to go to bed early and just get a ton of sleep. So if you need something, just going to bed early is a great way to practice self care.
