For years, I’ve struggled with how to handle my hair. I’ve always had the thick and frizzy texture, but come puberty my hair went from slightly wavy to extremely wavy curly. I’d get so frustrated that I’d just throw my hair into a messy pigtail. I’m pretty sure that comprised the majority of my photos for a year or two. Eventually, I decided it would be easier just to cut my hair short. Boy, I was wrong. I went back and forth between longer and shorter hair (despite liking short hair best) because I couldn’t figure out any way to actually style my hair.

Luckily, I found some products along the way to manage it. I now have short, curly, thick hair which looks decent most days. My hair’s healthier, bouncier, less frizzy. It’s all thanks to these amazing 6 hair products. You should consider using them as well if you have similarly textured hair!

1. African Pride Olive Miracle Anti-Breakage Formula Leave-In Conditioner

This leave-in conditioner is lightweight, smells great, and moisturizes my curls. I use it after showers and baths while my hair is still damp. My hair looks healthier when I use this product. The watery, gel-like feel to the conditioner blends into damp hair well. Overall, I am happy with this purchase.

2. Schwartzkopf Göt 2b Kinkier Gloss n’ Define Curling Mousse

This mousse makes my hair bounce and glow in just the right way. My curls and waves are defined, appearing less frizzy. They are locked into place. It also adds volume without becoming unruly.

3. Not Your Mother’s Clean Freak Tapioca Dry Shampoo

Most dry shampoos leave my hair stiff and far too brittle for my liking. I worry that brushing my hair after using dry shampoo will cause breakage. Not Your Mother’s Dry Shampoo, as a whole, cleans my hair while giving it a light and soft feeling. This is especially helpful when I am going through depressive episodes and can’t manage to clean myself properly.

4. Suave Professionals Sleek Anti-Frizz Cream

This hair product does exactly what it says in the name. With this in my hair, the frizziness is decreased leaving a sleek, polished look. The cream isn’t too heavy either. I’ve used this when going to job interviews and going to professional meetings. It gives me confidence in my appearance.

5. DpHUE Apple Cider Vinegar Hair Masque

I struggle with hair masks because many of them feel so heavy on my hair, leaving a product-y finish. This one is my absolute favorite though. It isn’t heavy on the hair. A little bit goes a long way, especially if you leave it on for 10-15 minutes. My hair feels softer, healthier, stronger. My curls look refined. I get so many compliments about my appearance when I use it. The only major downside is that the product’s costly. It is worth noting though that one jar lasted me 5 months, using it about once a week.

6. Ogx Locking & Coconut Curls Decadent Creamy Mousse

Yes, there are two types of mousse on this list. I use the first mousse more for volumizing and refining my curls. This mousse is better for de-frizzing and tightening the curliness. The coconut mousse feels fantastic in my hair. The texture is rich and creamy. It is a little heavier than other mousses; however, the coconut keeps my hair feeling strong and vibrant. I use coconut oil in most of my shampoos/conditioners due to the way it really moisturizes my locks. The short, thick, curly hair combined with this product makes the texture visibly nicer.

It is amazing the difference that can be made with some styling skills and high-quality hair products tailored specifically towards your hair texture. Discovering hair products which worked well for my hair boosted my confidence. I am now less likely to wear hats and headbands. I am more likely to put in the effort to make my hair how I want it. I hope that these hair products can be helpful for those of you struggling to find products catered towards thick, textured, curly hair. Your hair is beautiful and should be treated with the love and attention it deserves.
