Hey guys! Welcome back. We are well into 2020 at this point and as I reflect back on the start of this year, there are some things I wanted to share. These are things that I work endlessly to remind myself of anytime something comes up that I’m not prepared for or things don’t go as planned. These are things I remind myself about life and everything that I am doing. And these are things that are important for you to remember as you go day to day. Hopefully this will inspire you to push through and keep moving forward.

1. The past does not define you.

We all have a past. There are things that happened last month, last year, and even several years ago that looking back we wish we had handled differently. But we can’t go back and change it. All we can do is learn from those things and move forward from it. So it’s important for you to remember that your past does not define you. Everyday is a chance to start over.

2. You have accomplished plenty.

I struggle a lot with feeling as though I haven’t accomplished enough or I’m not as successful as I should be. If I don’t mark everything off my to-do list, I feel as though nothing matters and I’m not as pleased with myself as I should be. But I am slowly learning that I have accomplished enough. I am only one person and I can only do so much and that’s okay.

3. You can’t always follow your heart.

Sometimes your heart is leading you places that you aren’t ready for. Sometimes your heart wants you to stay in situations you know you shouldn’t stay in. Sometimes your heart makes a mess of things. So you can’t always listen to what your heart is telling you. Sometimes you have to go with your head or your gut and that’s okay. When it’s right, you will know to follow your heart.

4. Failure doesn’t always have to be negative.

Unfortunately we live in an age where failing is often seen as a bad thing and something we should avoid at all costs. And I’m not going to say failing at anything is fun, but I don’t think it’s always a bad thing. Failing means you are trying new things. It means you are taking chances and opportunities. It also allows you to know what you can do and what you can’t because no one is perfect at everything they try.

5. Being authentic is way more important that being liked.

It is absolutely essential that as you go through life you make sure that you are staying true to yourself and being authentic. Because it is more important for people to see the real you and for you to find people who accept you as you are than for you to pretend to be someone you’re not just so others will like you. Know yourself, accept yourself, and love yourself so others can do the same.

6. You can’t change people.

People don’t often change because it’s something that takes a lot of time and effort. You can’t change other people because they have to decide for themselves that they would like to change and what they want to change. It’s not up to you to decide what they should change or when they should change. That is something that they have to determine for themselves.

7. Your life won’t magically change.

Speaking of change, if there are changes you would like to see in your own life, it is up to you to see that those changes happen. Your life isn’t going to one day be everything you want it to be with no effort on your part. You have to make those decisions and then decide how you are going to make those changes happen. It’s not going to be easy, but if it’s something you really want it will be worth it.

8. Progress is more important than perfection.

You will never be perfect. Your life will never be perfect. It’s all about the ups and downs and how you choose to navigate whatever you are going through. And it’s important to remember when you are trying to grow and reach goals that you have for yourself that it’s important to focus on progress. Don’t give up just because you don’t get it every single day. Keep going and just keep making progress.

9. Opportunities don’t often come twice.

When it comes to life, you will have opportunities come your way. And you may struggle with whether or not you want to take those opportunities. So it’s important to remember that they usually don’t come back. So if you have an opportunity and you aren’t sure if you want to do, think about what might come of that decision in the future. Trust your gut and decide what’s right for you.

10. The most important relationship you have is the one you have with yourself.

When it comes to the people in your life, the most important relationship you have is the one that you build with yourself. You can’t give to anyone what you aren’t giving yourself. You can’t pour from an empty cup. So make sure that you are prioritizing yourself and taking care of yourself. Learn to love yourself and value yourself and the other relationships in your life will benefit as well.
