Makeup isn’t something I wear often. I’ve actually done makeup design for theatre, events, and occasional nights on the town though. When I put it on, my signature look is a light smoky eye and a bold lip color. I usually go for red. It’s reminiscent of the pin-up and old age Hollywood style.
But what type of red lipstick is the best choice?
In today’s lipstick showdown, we are going to be comparing Maybelline Color Sensational lipstick and Rimmel London Lasting Finish by Kate lipstick.
Maybelline Color Sensational
- Shade 645 Red Revival
- Price: $7.49 at Walgreens
- Slick tube appearance, unique rectangular shape, and silver and translucent red colors
- Bold lipstick shade
- Glossy appearance
- Decent smell
- Only lasts about 4 hours
- Rubs off on cups
- Slightly sticky
Rimmel London Lasting Finish by Kate
- Shade 111 Kiss of Life
- Price: $4.99 at Walgreens
- Opaque lipstick shade and it doesn’t take much to achieve color
- Matte appearance
- Lasts about 8-9 hours
- Doesn’t rub off too easily once it dries
- Boring and undistinctive lipstick tube except for “Kate” name
- Doesn’t smell the best (not awful, but not great)
When comparing the products, I think the winner is Rimmel London Lasting Finish by Kate. It is longer lasting, a smoother color, and better quality. It’s less expensive than its Maybelline counterpart. The tube itself may not look the most interesting, but the product is top-notch (pun intended). Maybelline Color Sensational’s lipstick consistency is too sticky and glossy for my liking. If I wanted to wear lipgloss, I’d wear lipgloss.
Now that you’ve read my comparison, I’d like to know your thoughts.
