Hey guys! Welcome back. We are well into November at this point and Thanksgiving is just a couple of weeks away. With that I feel comfortable saying the Holiday Season is officially upon us. And I know for many the Holiday Season can be very stressful and hectic and for many of us this season will look very different from how it has looked in the past. Because I of that I cannot stress enough how important it is to make time for yourself and do things that help you not only survive these next couple of months, but also thrive. So here are some great ways to make time for yourself during the holidays.
Cherish every moment.
Like I said, I know this time of year can be very stressful and there is always a lot going on. And in the state of the world in which we live right now there seems to be even more stress and worry than ever before. However, that doesn’t mean that it’s all bad and that we can’t find some joy and peace in our daily lives. So I challenge you to cherish every moment that you do get to spend with those you care about. Cherish the moments that you get to spend doing things you really love.
Review your schedule.
This time of year gets really busy and we can’t always get to everyone and everything we wanted. Sometimes we have to look at our schedules and figure out what needs to be moved or taken off completely. It’s easy to stretch yourself too thin this time of year and even though we think in the moment that it’s a good idea, it also leads us to having less time to spend just for ourselves. So sometimes we need to look at our schedule and know when to say no.
Monitor your stress.
Don’t let yourself get so stressed out that you stop being able to enjoy this time. Monitor how you are feeling and when you need to take time for yourself. Trust me, your body will know before you mind is ready to admit it. So just make sure you are taking some time and really assessing how you are feeling and if you need that time. Never feel guilty for stepping away from the festivities when you are feeling stressed or worn down. You won’t be able to fully enjoy everything that is happening anyway if you are too stressed.
Do something you love.
Whether it is holiday-related or not, taking some time to do something you love is a great way to recharge your energy and get you back where you want to be. Take some time just for yourself and spend it doing something you want to do. Don’t worry about things that you need to do or have to do. Just focus on something you want to do. Allow yourself some guilt-free time just with yourself doing what you love.
Reserve a few minutes everyday just for you.
We don’t always have hours of alone time to just spend doing things we love or want to do. So what I recommend doing is in the morning when you wake up, reserve just a few minutes to spend by yourself. Whether that means doing a quick workout, reading a few pages in a book, or simply sitting and just relaxing, take some time for yourself before the business of the day starts. It will help you relax and help you prepare mentally for the day ahead. There are so many benefits of taking five to ten minutes just for yourself every morning because it helps you really prepare.
Turn errands into alone time.
If you have the ability to do your errands by yourself, I highly recommend this. It gives you a chance to get out of the house, go do what you need to do, and not worry about what anyone else wants or needs. It’s a great time to just relax and be alone with your thoughts and feelings. Sometimes it really is therapeutic to just go grocery shopping by yourself and spend some time really looking at different things and enjoying your own company.
Remember to delegate.
If you have tasks that you can delegate to someone else, it might be worth it to allow someone else to take some of the load off of you. Whether it is your partner helping with the kids, a coworker helping with a task at work, or a friend helping with a social event, it’s always nice when we have people in our lives that we can lean on when we need support. So don’t be afraid to ask for help because there is always someone who is willing to lend a helping hand. Especially if you feel like things are getting really chaotic and you really need some time for yourself.
