Hey everyone,
This week, I’m doing something a little different and sharing a poem with you. When you have an event change your entire life, it’s hard to adjust. The world isn’t kind to those with disabilities. People tell you to give up on your dreams, and that can be extremely disheartening. I’ve been going through that for the past seven-ish years. But, I won’t give up. I hope this poem inspires you not to give up either.

Dreams Linger
*
Little one stands on a tabletop
Opens up her mouth and feels the whole room stop
She sings her heart out with her little voice
And nobody questioned her choice
That was the start of something grand
*
Scribbled lyrics in a notebook no one sees
She plays and plays for hours on piano keys
She plucks at the guitar strings until her fingers bleed
Knowing that the music’s all she needs
For the start of something grand
*
But crisis strikes in the cruelest of ways
Plans light up in a fiery blaze
*
They say there isn’t much to gain
Living a life full of pain
She tried to accept it a thousand times
But, when she closes her eyes
*
She is dancing around in circles
Moving with the Earth beneath her feet
She’s strumming that old Sherwood
Belting out each note with the beat
She’s up on that wide stage
People shouting out her name
Well, she may not be perfect
And she’ll probably never be the same
*
But just for a moment, she remembers
Just for a moment, she forgets
*
Though they say her dreams are quicksand
She won’t give in to their demands
Someday she’ll find a way
She’ll shoot for the stars and pass the moon
She’ll make them see her soon
*
Even if it takes a lifetime
The world will change their views
The Earth turns and she still yearns
She’ll break the mold and take a stand
And she’ll find something grand.
