Hey guys! Welcome back. As many of you may remember back in August I moved to a new city that I have never lived in before. It was really scary and I wasn’t really sure if it would be a good move or not. However, once I finally got here and things settled down, I was able to really fall in love with being here and starting a new chapter in a new city. And today I thought I would share with you some things I did and what helped me adapt to living in a brand new city not knowing anyone. From experience I know that moving to a new city can be a challenge no matter what, so if you find yourself in a similar situation, hopefully this helps you!
Packing my necessities.
When it came to moving to a new city I knew that I couldn’t really take everything I owned. So I had to strip it down quite a bit and come with only what I knew I would need or really want. Of course, I managed to buy new things when I got here, but the moving process was a lot easier only bringing along my absolute essentials. I knew the things that I couldn’t overlook or leave behind and I made sure to have those with me.
Keeping in touch with old friends.
Just because you don’t see each other all the time does not mean that you lose your friends completely. Call them, text them, and keep in touch as often as you can. Make plans to visit with each other and spend time together. It helps knowing that you are not completely alone and that you do still have people in your life who are there for you. So even though it’s scary moving to a new city, you are going to be completely alone.
Decorating my apartment.
Whether you bought a new house or rented an apartment, having your own space gives you new opportunities to decorate and make the space your own. You get to add your own touches that help make your living space a home for you. Create a space that fits your style and makes you feel comfortable, secure, and happy. At the end of the day, this is your new home, so why not make it feel that way?
Finding a new hobby.
Picking up a hobby in a new city is not only a great way to try something new, but it’s also a great way to meet new people. As you go around town you encounter all kinds of people, some that may be your best friends someday. Having a hobby is a great way to relieve stress, build connections, and reconnect with yourself. Moving is a stressful time, so having something to take your mind off of everything is really nice.
Taking time to adjust.
Moving is a big change in anyone’s life and one of the best things I did was taking time to adjust to all the changes. It was really difficult at first because I wasn’t sure what to do or where to go. So taking time to just take it all in and really enjoy the process really helps me move forward and start this new chapter off strong. I’m thankful I had the opportunity to take everything in and ease myself into this new environment.
This is probably the biggest one. Having roommates really changed the game for me. I don’t think I would have survived if it hadn’t been for them. They really helped me and lifted me up the first couple of months that I was here and I will forever be thankful to them. I couldn’t imagine living with better roommates because they really did become my best friends. Having roommates is a real game changer.
And that is how I adapted to moving to a new city! Even though it was a challenge I am so glad I did it. I couldn’t be happier with where I am right now I am thankful God led me here.
