[Note: People can use any pronouns they feel comfortable with, and that should be respected. A feminine presentation doesn’t always mean she/her pronouns. Throughout this article, I will be using she/her pronouns simply for clarity.]

One of the biggest obstacles to being LGBTQ+ and interested in romance is figuring out if a person likes you. It’s harder because everyone is presumed cis, allo, and straight unless otherwise specified. Is that feminine person just being friendly or is she into me? Unless you’re in a queer space like a gay bar, it’s ridiculously tough to figure out someone’s sexual orientation, let alone if they’re interested. While there is no foolproof tell that guarantees interest, there are signs that can help you discern between friendship and a potential date.

Ask yourself these questions:

  • Does she make a point of telling you she is queer?

  • Does she laugh at all your jokes?

  • Does she trip over her words and forget things around you? Does she act nervous and awkward?

  • Does she bring you thoughtful presents?

  • Does she find excuses to touch you? A hand on the shoulder? Smoothing your hair?

  • Does she make time to see you? Does she send you quick, little texts when she’s busy?

  • Does she lean towards you when you’re near her?

  • Does she compliment you more than she compliments others?

  • Does she ask you personal questions?

  • Does she suggest spending time alone together?

  • Does she give you her whole attention?

If you answered “yes” to most or all of those questions, there is a good chance that she’s interested in pursuing a romantic relationship or going on a date with you. She might be vibing you but too shy/nervous to say something. Always remember that these may be good indicators, but the best way to find out if she likes you is to ask her. Don’t be afraid to put yourself out there. If she says no, respect her answer. By showing a little courage though, you could find out that your feelings are reciprocated. Don’t let the opportunity pass you by.

I hope you enjoyed this article. I love getting to discuss LGBTQ+ topics. What other queer articles would you like me to write? Put your requests in the comments or send them to me on Instagram: @OldSoulBlogger.
