Hey guys! Welcome back. I have been working from home for almost a month now and while it has been one of the biggest blessings to come out of this year, it’s not without it’s challenges. One of the biggest challenges has been creating a work space in my home and keeping work-friendly. I don’t have the biggest room and I don’t have a ton of space to put things, so not having a desk to utilize in my personal life has been a challenge. So today I wanted to share with you how I keep my home office space organized.
Use it as only a work space.
Like I said, I don’t have a ton of space and having two large desktop computers on my desk takes up a lot of space. And it would be easy to clutter up my desk by adding other things to it and trying to fit as much as I could. But I know that wouldn’t be practical and probably wouldn’t be the best for creating a healthy work environment. So I keep this little corner of my room strictly a work space. I do have a shelf up above that has a few books and decorations, but the desk itself is strictly for work-related things and I only sit there when I’m working.
Dry Erase Board For Reminders.
I think this is a good tip for everyone because a dry erase board is reusable so you don’t have to keep up with papers and trying to find notepads and pens all the time. A dry erase board can just hang right by your desk so you can keep notes and things you need to remember right next to you. It’s really helpful for reducing clutter and you can even draw fun pictures on it if you want. Having a dry erase board for your home office space is an investment worth making because it is practical and cuts down on the clutter that you have around your desk.
Use under the desk for storage.
I was not lucky enough to have a desk that has drawers or any kind of storage other than the shelf up top. So I have to get pretty creative with how I store things. If you do have a desk that has drawers and some kind of storage space underneath, figure out a system that works for you and organize it in a way that is practical and makes sense to you. As far as under my desk I still don’t have drawers, so for now I have a couple of baskets where I keep books, office supplies, and anything else that I might need at some point. It’s organized and put away.
Get creative with the layout.
It’s impossible to have a completely empty workspace, so I find that it is really helpful to have layout that looks nice but remains practical. It helps me know exactly where things are and where to find what I need at all times. It’s also fun to be able to personalize my workspace and add some creative touches where I can without going overboard. I spend a lot of time sitting at my office space so I need an arrangement that looks really pleasing, but that also is not overpowering or too cluttered. It takes time, but it is so worth it in the end.
I mentioned earlier that I have some baskets and various storage options under my desk to help with organization. I also have a couple of small things on my desk with things that I use regularly. So I find that it is really helpful to label everything so I know exactly where things are when I need them. This may seem like an obvious thing to do but when I first set everything up I actually didn’t think about labeling anything and one day I realized I was spending too much time searching for things and trying to remember which basket had what in it.
And those are some of the things that I do to keep my at-home work space organized. It’s a challenge at times, but it really helps me focus better and keeps everything looking nice and put together. Hopefully this helps you if you are also working from home and need some inspiration on how you can organize your home office space. Please like it if it does. Thank you so much for stopping by!
