Hey guys! Welcome back. Working from home is seriously no joke and while I am super grateful that I get to work from the comfort of my own home, it can be a bit draining since I am working in the same place that I sleep. Like literally in the same room less than two feet apart. So it’s really important for me to have good routine set in place so I can separate my home life from my work life and I wanted to share that with all of you today. This is what I do to end my work day while working from home and trying to keep things separate.
Turn off computers.
The very first thing I do when I get off work is turn my computers off. This is important because even if I just keep them on for a little while after work is over it doesn’t really feel like my work day is over until they are off. And it’s very easy to feel like I am constantly at work or should be at work if my computers are always on. So the first thing I do before I even leave my desk every evening is turn my computers off.
Go for a walk/quick workout.
After sitting at my desk all day it’s very easy to feel sluggish and down. So when I get off work I like to go for a little walk or do a quick workout. Sometimes it’s something simple like taking the trash out just to get my blood flowing a bit. I just try to do something to move my body after a long day of sitting at my desk staring at computer screens. It’s also just a great habit to build no matter what so I find this really helpful.
Wash my face/take a shower.
I don’t often wear makeup since I work from home and people don’t normally see that much of me. But after I do my walk or workout, I always like to wash my face. I wait until a bit later to do the rest of my skin care, but I like to clean my face because it gives me a fresh start. I also hop in the shower to really wash the day off and close out the work day. It helps me relax and gives me a few minutes to just decompress and really have some thoughts just for myself. It’s honestly one of my favorite things to do every evening because it’s so relaxing and calming.
Have a nice dinner.
Sometimes I make dinner and sometimes I order food. It really just depends on how I’m feeling. But having a nice dinner and just relaxing for a little bit after a long day of working helps me keep from getting burned out and being stressed. I really take this time to either enjoy some company or watch a TV show. Anything to take my mind off of work and just have some quality time away from my desk.
Turn on my favorite show/read a book.
Sometimes the best way to end your day is in a different world. I usually have content I need to work on in the evenings so I usually turn on a TV show in the background while I work. But sometimes if I am caught up on content I will pick up a book and get some reading done. It’s just a great way to relax and it is so comforting. I love just having that time to myself and not having any real pressure or responsibility for a couple of hours while I wrap up my day. It’s something I really look forward to everyday and it brings me a lot of joy and happiness.
