Hey guys! Welcome back. I think at one point or another we all go through some kind of existential crisis where we wonder what we are doing, where we are going, and who we are becoming. And if you aren’t, trust me you will at some point because if you don’t you aren’t really living. But I think it is really important when these questions come up that we know what the next step should be and how to find the answers to these questions. So today I wanted to share with you my tips for what you can do if you aren’t sure of a direction to take next.
I think one of the biggest pitfalls that comes with not knowing where to go next is that we feel like we have to have everything figured out before we can do anything. But that isn’t always the case. In fact, it’s rarely the case. So I find that it is best to just get started even if you don’t have all the answers right away. You will learn as you go and in many ways that is even better. Sure, you will make mistakes and struggle at times. But that doesn’t mean you have to give up. It just means that you are still learning and you should always be learning. So just get started and you will find your way.
Trust your gut.
I have talked a lot in the past about your gut instinct and I am here talking about it again because at the risk of sounding like a broken record, I have learned just how important it is to trust your gut and listen to what it is telling you. Your gut is linked to your subconscious mind and it knows you better than anyone. So learn to follow it when you are trying to find direction or make an important decision about where to go next. Your gut instinct is yours and yours alone and there is a reason you have it. So learn to trust it.
Notice what makes you happy.
There are a lot of different things in life that make us happy. Some are big and some are small. Regardless, we all have things that make us happy. So when you find yourself in a situation where you aren’t sure what to do and you are having to figure some things out, pay attention to the things that make you happy. Think about those things and figure out what path you need to go down to get more of those things in the future. Sure nothing will ever provide you with everything you want to be happy, but the happier you can be, the better off you will end up.
Know your strengths and your weaknesses.
When you were a kid you probably had a lot of dreams and a ton of different ideas for things you wanted do when you got older. And maybe some of them were realistic. But maybe some of them you figured out along the way that you just weren’t cut out for. A lot of that has to do with strengths and weaknesses. Every single person on the planet has both. So when faced with a decision, challenge, or opportunity it is important to factor in your strengths and weaknesses that way you can decide for yourself what the best route to take is and which direction to go.
Focus on your values.
Your values and the things that are important to you are a major part of who you are. They are essential to who you are. So when looking for a direction to go or a course of action to take in life, it is important to make sure that you know what you value most and then seek it out in everything that you do. There will be some people along the way who maybe don’t agree with your values or don’t have the same values. They may even ridicule you for your values. Hold on to them anyway and keep following the path that aligns with your values. That is where you will find the most peace.
Surround yourself with supportive people.
The people in our lives and who we surround ourselves with matters, and if you surround yourself with people who are always putting you down or making you feel bad, you probably won’t get very far. So it’s really important that you surround yourself with people who are positive and that support you and what you are trying to accomplish. It’s important to make sure that you spend time with people who are going help you move forward, not try to hold you back. Your support system can only be as good as you allow it to be, so make sure you choose wisely.
If you feel like you are lacking direction in any area of your life, pay attention to these things. Pay attention to your gut, the people you spend time with, what makes you happy, and what your strengths and weaknesses are. Take action when and where you can. Thank you so much for stopping by!
