So if you want to finally get to a place where you can set goals for yourself and stay on top of them, just keep reading.
Watch for the sabotage.
When you find yourself falling off your goals or questioning whether you can actually reach them, pay attention to how you feel in that moment and what is causing those thoughts. If you are feeling unmotivated or tired, make sure you note that and also remember that just because you feel that way right now doesn’t mean you always will. Sometimes you just need to take a time out, but don’t toss out the goal completely. If you give up every time you feel a little down or unmotivated, you aren’t likely to accomplish anything.
Show yourself some grace.
Having goals, reaching for a better version of yourself, and really pushing your limits isn’t always easy. In fact, it’s not supposed to be. You will have times when you fall off the path. You will have times when you don’t reach a goal in the time frame you wanted to or thought you would. You will have times when you just aren’t as motivated to reach a goal as you were when you set it. That’s all okay. In fact it’s part of it. Failure is a part of success and it’s where you learn your biggest lessons and find your biggest breakthroughs. So show yourself some grace.
Allow yourself to make mistakes.
Like I said, mistakes are going to happen. No one is perfect and if you are trying to reach your goals and grow into the person you want to be, you have to allow yourself to make mistakes. You have to allow yourself to live in a realistic way while you are reaching for your goals because that’s the only way the goal really becomes practical. That’s the only way your brain will be able to process it as an everyday part of your life. Allow yourself to mess up sometimes. Allow yourself those mistakes, but always, always get back up and keep moving forward.
When setting your goals it is so important to make sure that they are realistic and that they make sense to you and where you are right now. Don’t set goals that you want the person you want to be a year from now to be able to reach. Set attainable goals that you can reach right now as you are in this moment. Don’t set the goal of running a mile every morning if you have never ran a mile in your life. Don’t set the goal of spending two hours on your hobby every night if you know you don’t have that time. Start with things you know you can achieve and build them up from there.
One of the best ways to avoid sabotaging your goals is to just get started. Don’t let yourself think about if you can do, if you want to do it, or if you should do it. Just do it. Get started on your goals and start taking action. I know it can be difficult to get motivated, especially in the beginning, but if you just trust the process and get started it will get easier. Avoid sabotaging yourself by not allowing yourself to even have the chance. Don’t sit and think about it because the longer you wait the longer it will take for things to actually happen.
And those are my tips on how to avoid sabotaging your goals. I know it can be hard to keep up with having goals sometimes because it’s easy to fall back into old habits, but stick with it and I promise you won’t be sorry. Thank you so much for stopping by!
