Hey guys! Welcome back. I feel like I have a never-ending to-do list right now with school, work, blogging, and basic daily life. So I really had to find ways to stay on top of everything and make sure I was staying on track. Life is really hectic right now and I’m sitting in the middle of a messy room because I wrote a ten page paper, cleaned my bathroom, and did laundry today. And now I’m sitting down to write this blog post and a few more to schedule out for the week. Needless to say, things are pretty crazy right now, but I’m just handling it one day at a time. But I wanted to share some of things I do to stay organized and productive in case you have a lot going on too because we’re in this together.
Keep a weekly to-do list.
I keep my to-do list in my Google Calendar because it helps me also schedule everything out as well and make sure I’m not over-scheduling myself. But even if you just have a to-do list on a piece of paper, it’s better than not having one at all. I highly recommend you keep a list of all the things you know you need to get done that way you don’t forget anything. I make a new list every Saturday night and then I put it in my calendar. I will also write really important things on my white board that way I see it all the time and I really can’t forget.
Listening to podcasts.
I have really been getting into podcasts a lot more recently. I used to have just a couple that I would listen to, but now I listen to just about anything that interests me. And the reason this helps me is because it helps inspire me to be productive and get things done. I will listen to a podcast while I’m doing something (like cleaning the bathroom), to help me learn new productivity tips or how to be focused, and just because I think they are great resources anyway.
I get things done as quickly as possible.
If there is an email I need to respond to, I typically try to respond as soon as I get it. It I know I need to do laundry, I try to get it done earlier in the day. If I have a big assignment I try to get it done as quickly and efficiently as I can. Doing something as soon as it comes up if possible is a great way to keep from having to add it to my to-do list. If it’s something that will need to be done anyway I know there is no need to put it off until later because later there will probably be something else I need to be doing. So I try to do things when they come up to keep my to-do list minimal.
I know it might sound crazy, but it’s really not. Sleep is a huge priority for me and I try always to get at least eight hours every night. I know for most people it’s easier said than done, but I always say shoot for seven. But sleep is really important because it helps me stay focused throughout the day. If I’m tired or sleepy I’m not nearly as productive as I could be and that’s not really helpful in any situation. So I try to make sure I am getting enough sleep and that I’m not doing things during a time that I should be sleeping.
I take breaks.
This is another one that may seem counterproductive, but it’s really not. Taking breaks are really important for staying productive and focused because if I go nonstop all day it’s not likely that I will keep up with it very long. It’s really easy to get burned out early in the day if you don’t take a second to just relax. Sometimes stepping away from everything and revisiting a little later is one of the best thing you can do. Clear your head, go on a walk, get a drink and a snack. Do something to get your mind off of things for a minute.
Those are some of the things that I do to stay organized and productive. Life is really crazy for me right now, but it’s all worth it in the end. I don’t add things to my plate that don’t fulfill me in some way, so I just try to stay on top of it all. Thank you so much for stopping by! I really hope you enjoyed this. Please like it if you did.
