Hey guys! Welcome back. I hope you are having a great week. It’s almost over so hopefully we are all excited for the weekend! I had an idea today based on a question someone asked me recently. They asked me if it’s possible to have a home office space without having a spare room. And the answer is, absolutely! I don’t have a spare room that I consider my “home office”, but I do have a home office space. It’s not super exciting or special, but it’s a space where I do my work and keep up with all of my important things. So I wanted to share with you how you can create a home office when you don’t actually have a home office.

Find a corner.

My home office space is in a corner of my bedroom. It’s faced away from my bed now which definitely helps me get work done on the daily. If you don’t have a room that you can devote to your home office space, find a corner of a room where you can. It can be a bedroom, the living room, the dining room, or even a closet if you have an open one or one that you can clean out. You can get a desk or find a smaller table or console to use. Whatever fits the space you are working with. A corner can be a pretty effective home office space.

Get a nice desk chair.

Nothing says office space like a really nice, comfortable desk chair. No matter what you will always feel official sitting in it. Investing in a good desk chair is really important, especially if you spend a lot of time sitting in it. It doesn’t have to be super expensive (mine was less than $100 on Amazon!), but I wouldn’t recommend a super cheap one either because they tend to be less comfortable and stable. It really just depends on your needs and your budget, but I think it’s really important to shop around for a little bit before you commit to something just to see your options.

Remove distractions.

I sometimes have this really bad habit of putting things in my work space that aren’t work related or productive at all and then I get distracted more than I need to. So I really try to keep my work space clean and free of anything that isn’t necessary to have at my desk. It makes the space feel a lot bigger as well which is important when you don’t have a ton of space to work with to begin with. It’s a tough thing to do all the time because it’s a part of my room and I have a limited amount of space, but it’s really important to keep it as clean as possible.

Add color.

There are a ton of really great ways to add color without having to take up too much space. Buy some colorful office supplies like pens, index cards, and post-it notes. Hang up some pictures around your desk. Add a couple of small plants. Keep a blanket at your desk (this helps with comfort as well!). Add color in any way that you can and try to make as many of them functional and productive as well. Colorful organizing bins help as well. I guess what I’m saying is there is no need to make everything black and white unless you really want to.

Try to set up near a window.

Natural light is a really great way to have lighting while you work and boost your mood. Ever since I moved my desk next to my window I have noticed a change in my work flow and energy. I love being able to look out the window and also just have all the natural light coming in. If you have an opportunity to set up your home office space near a window, even if it’s not right next to it, it can really help tremendously. Even if it’s just in a room with really great natural light and a big window, that’s enough to give you something. It’s something I really recommend.

Use all the space.

When it comes to organizing your home office space when you don’t have a home office, organization is really important. It can be tricky when you don’t have a ton of space, but that’s why it’s key to use every bit of space you can. If your desk or makeshift desk doesn’t have drawers, buy some storage drawers and stick them under your desk or beside it. Buy some floating shelves and hand them up above or next to your desk. Buy a desk organizer to organize all of your papers and office supplies so you know where everything is.

It is definitely possible to have a home office space without having a spare room that you can completely devote to being a home office. It can also be really fun to just use the space you have and get creative with it. Thank you so much for stopping by! I really hope you enjoyed this. Please like it if you did.
