Hey guys! Welcome back. I hope you are all having a great week. Today I wanted to talk a bit about journaling. I have been journaling since the beginning of this year and it really is something that has been a life-changing habit. It’s something I am striving to keep up with everyday, even though it’s easy to skip when the day is too busy or hectic. But I have found some really helpful tips that help me stay on track and I wanted to share them with you!

Keeping my journal by my bed.

I have a shelf next to my bed and I keep my journal by my bed. This way when I’m getting up in the morning or going to bed at night it’s right there and I can reach for it when I have a few extra minutes. It also serves as a reminder that it’s there and helps me remember to keep up with it. It’s also helpful for when inspiration strikes and I really want to write something down. It’s always handy and I always know where I can find it.

Have a list of prompts.

It can be easy to avoid the journaling if I feel like I don’t have anything to say or I don’t know what to write about. So I try to keep a list of prompts that I can go to when I need to write something but don’t have any ideas. It’s a great way for me to dive a little deeper and maybe write about something I wouldn’t necessarily be thinking about otherwise. It’s great for creativity and just getting something written.

Schedule it.

Journaling, like any habit, has to be something I make time for. I know if I’m not making it a priority at some point during the day that I might skip it or forget about it. So I make sure that when I’m planning my day I give myself some time to write and journal. It helps me keep the habit and even if it’s only 15 minutes at the end of the day, I know it’s there and I know that I will have the time for it.

Remove distractions.

Nothing is worse than when I’m trying to journal and really be alone with my thoughts and then I get interrupted or distracted doing something else. This is one of those times when do not disturb is a great tool and that I use during this time. I also make sure the TV is off and I am really ready to be alone with myself and my journal. This is my time to just write and really put a lot of thought into what I’m writing.

Be creative.

I have always loved writing and I love that it helps me be more creative and come up with new ideas and goals. It allows me to dream and write about what I’m thinking and how I’m feeling. I always allow myself to be creative while I’m journaling because it’s oddly therapeutic for me. I love that I get to share what I’m thinking about and the thoughts I have throughout the day. It’s just really fun for me.
