Hey guys! Welcome back. As we enter a new month (and almost new season) I thought now would be the perfect time to talk about self care. I know I have been struggling a lot recently with just feeling burnt out and really low. So self care has been a top priority and I have found some tips that really help make it more practical and accessible because we can’t all afford to take a week long vacation when we need to. So I wanted to share some tips with you that I have learned that honestly really help me practice better self care.

Take a nap when you are tired.

This is one that I learned really helps me these past couple of months. I used to never take naps because I felt like it wasn’t a productive use of time or I felt like there were other things that I should be doing. But the truth is, when I’m tired I’m not really motivated to do anything, so I go ahead and take a nap. It’s more beneficial for me to just rest and the get up and keep going than it is to try to power through and get things done.

Eat nutritious meals.

This one isn’t a big secret and it’s super helpful. Eating nutritious meals really helps me have more energy and feel a lot better throughout the day. I really try not to skip breakfast now because I know the difference that I feel when I eat breakfast versus when I don’t eat breakfast.

Pamper yourself now and then.

Self care is more than bubble baths and spa nights, but no one ever said they weren’t helpful at all. Sometimes I just need that time to relax and do things that make me feel good. Sometimes it’s a bubble bath and sometimes it’s doing my nails. Sometimes it’s even as simple as just doing a face mask. Pampering myself every once in a while though definitely helps me a lot. It’s a time for me to just relax and take my mind off of everything. It’s time for me to just be still and listen to some nice, calming music. It doesn’t solve everything, but it never hurts.

Manage your stress.

I know this is easier said than done. Trust me, I get it. But I also know the power that managing my stress has on me. If I’m able to do things that helps me fight off as much stress as possible then I feel a lot better overall and just move throughout the day a lot easier. Making sure I get things done on time, stick to my routines, and don’t add things to my plate that I don’t have room for all help me keep my stress levels in check.

Set healthy boundaries.

Boundaries are really important in all areas of life. Setting boundaries has really helped me because it helps me keep negativity from being a constant part of my life, it allows me to make sure I am taking care of myself, and it prevents me from feeling too overwhelmed by everything I am trying to do. Boundaries are so important when it comes to self care because without boundaries it’s nearly impossible to do anything.

Cry it out.

Tears have some serious healing powers and I know for me sometimes I just need a really good cry. It may feel a bit strange for some people, but for me I know that sometimes a good cry is exactly what I need to feel better because it’s allowing me to let go of any negative feelings that I am holding on to.

Have a morning and night routine.

If you have been around for a while, it’s not secret to you that routines are a really big part of my life. Having a morning routine and a night routine help me have stability and certainty in my day. It allows me to have control over two really important parts of my day and they help me stay successful. I can’t recommend building solid routines enough because they really help me make sure I am keeping myself in check.

Think positive.

It’s really easy for me to think negatively. It’s how I was raised. But I think there is so much power and goodness in thinking positively and I know for me when I choose positive thoughts over negative thoughts I am so much better off in the long run. I am much more motivated throughout the day and I work a lot harder when I have more positive thoughts. It really just lights a fire in me that’s hard to explain.

Take breaks.

This is such an important one because we live in a society that values hard work and productivity over everything else. It’s always about how much you can get done and what you accomplish. And those things are important and a good work ethic is really good to have. But taking breaks when you need it is also important. Being able to recognize when you need to stop and when you need to keep going is an incredible skill and if you can build that you are doing something really good for yourself. So I have learned that it’s okay to need a break.

Reward yourself for every success.

I used to discredit myself a lot for everything I did, no matter how big or small. I always struggled with thinking that the things I did didn’t really matter or that I could have done it better. But I have learned that discounting everything I do isn’t going to help me be successful. It’s going to keep me from trying things because I will always focus on the negative. So I have learned to start celebrating every success, no matter the size, because it helps me stay motivated and inspired.

Take time to reflect.

When it comes to self care one of the things that I think is talked about the least is taking the time to reflect. Reflect on the day, reflect on how you feel, reflect on what’s working and what’s not working. Reflection is such a big part of life for me because it allows me the opportunity to see what I want my next steps to be. It allows me the chance to make serious changes and really make decisions about what I want moving forward.

Avoid multitasking.

This may not necessarily seem like self care, but for me it. Avoiding multitasking is a part of my self care rule book because I know when I try to multitask and do multiple things at once I get really overwhelmed and I struggle with stress a lot more. So making sure I’m just focusing on one thing at a time prevents me from feeling as overloaded.

And that’s it. Those are my favorite tips for practicing better self care. These are all things that really help me and that I have made a solid effort to implement into my daily life in order to feel better overall. Thank you so much for stopping by!
