Hey guys! Welcome back. In honor of the fact that tomorrow is officially the beginning of Fall, I wanted to share another Fall-themed blog post with a twist. One of the number one questions I get asked is why I started blogging and if I think it’s a good idea for other people and I am here today to answer that question again. I’ve talked about this before, but there are so many new followers both here and on Instagram, so I felt the need to share it again for anyone who may have missed it.

I started my blog in June of 2017. At that point I had been writing consistently for a couple of other websites and had been published on a few others. I loved writing and loved the creative process and everything that went into it. The problem with writing for other websites though is that you don’t have complete control. They get to decide what goes up and what doesn’t, the pictures you can use, what you can say, and all of that. You don’t have as much control. And there was so much that I wanted to say that they just weren’t interested in sharing.

So I thought about starting my own website and decided to look into what it would take to do that. What I found was a lot easier than I was expecting it to be. I wasn’t doing it for fame or for money. I just wanted a space where I could write whatever I wanted and share it with whoever cared enough to read it. I thought I would get maybe a couple hundred followers and I would just write until I got bored. Well, at over 2,000 followers and four years later, we are still here.

My answer to anyone asking if I think it’s a good idea and if I think you should start a blog, my answer is yes. I’ll get into all the reasons why in just a minute, but I want you to know that there are so many reasons to do it that only you know. If it’s something you really want to do, then you should do it. It doesn’t matter what anyone else thinks. Just don’t start thinking you are going to immediately start making money or be famous overnight because that just don’t happen for most people. Maybe you’ll get lucky but the chances are slim. But with that, here are the reasons you should definitely start a blog this Fall!

You have your own platform.

Like I mentioned in my story, having your own blog and your own website gives you a platform unlike any other platform. You have your own space where you can share whatever you want and write about the things you feel passionate about. There’s no one who gets to dictate whether or not you can do something. It’s a safe space for you to open up and let the people who want to know more come to you and follow you. You don’t have to worry about the opinions of anyone else and worry about something not getting put out. It’s all up to you!

It helps you communicate better.

Want to grow your writing skills? Start a blog. Want to know how to articulate your thoughts and feelings better? Start a blog. Want to get feedback from others? Start a blog. Starting a blog literally gives you so many opportunities to get better at communicating and sharing with others. Not just through what you say, but taking feedback from others. There’s no one there who can tell you what you can and cannot do, but listening to your audience once it starts to grow will really help you in becoming a better creator in general. It’s helpful to listen.

Gain new opportunities.

If it hadn’t been for starting a blog I don’t know that I would have had as many opportunities as I have. I don’t think my book would have sold as well as it has right out the gate. I wouldn’t have the opportunity to work with so many people and fellow creators. I wouldn’t have the following I have and the opportunity to share my journey and what I’m going through. Having a blog helps you gain so many new opportunities that you otherwise might not have. There are also even more opportunities to come for me that haven’t even happened yet. The possibilities are endless.

It makes you think.

Blogging isn’t a super simple process. It’s not a one and done kind of thing. You can’t post one thing and then just let it sit. It won’t do very well unless it’s a really great post. You have to keep working at it, but that’s not necessarily a bad thing. Blogging makes you think. You have to come up with new ideas. You have to figure out what you want to say and how you want to say it. You have to find new ways to promote yourself and your content. The better you get at thinking and coming up with ideas, the more confident you will start to feel.

You can help others.

My favorite comment that I get is when I get a comment on a post or on Instagram from someone telling me how much I have helped them. Whether it’s from a specific post or just in general, knowing first hand that I have helped someone in some way warms my heart. It’s such a big deal to be able to use your platform for good and share your own experiences with others. You have no idea the kind of impact you can have in this world until you try. This alone is what I believe to be enough of a reason to start a blog and share with others.

It’s so much fun.

This should also be reason enough to get started. Blogging is so much fun. You get to create content, connect with others, and do it on your own terms. There is no rule book for blogging. It’s all up to you! There is no right or wrong way to do things, although there are plenty of tips if you’re stuck. Blogging is such a blast and it’s something that I love so much that I literally do it every single day. It’s not really work to me. It’s just a lot of fun and a way for me to share my voice with others. It’s one of my favorite things to do!

Fall is the best time to start.

There is a specific reason I said reasons you should start a blog this Fall. There’s a reason I chose Fall. It’s because Fall is the best time of year to start blogging. First of all, the Fall content is just the best. Christmas and Winter is also really good, but if you start in Fall you will already be gaining a following by the time that comes around. People read blogs more in the Fall and if you find a niche like recipes or fashion, Fall is going to be the best time for you in terms of views and followers. Fall has so many fun opportunities that will help you grow.

Blogging is such an amazing thing to do and invest your time in. I highly recommend starting one if you are considering it because it’s so rewarding. Thank you so much for stopping by! I really hope you enjoyed this. Please like it if you did. Let us know in the comments what your reasons were for starting a blog if you have one or what your questions are if you don’t already have one but are thinking about it. Don’t forget to follow before you leave if you have not already and I hope to see you next time!
